Media Literacy for Elementary Schoolers
Length: 120:00
Our annual media literacy screenings introduce area youth to the art of film with special appearances by North Carolina filmmakers. The event for elementary school students will include a screening of age-appropriate short films and will take place at the Cape Fear Museum. These films will be selected from the 1000+ films that are submitted for consideration for the 15th annual Cucalorus Film Festival. The screening will also include a selection of television commercials made by local producers. Following the screening, the attending filmmakers will discuss their film and the filmmaking process with the students. Cucalorus staff are on hand to help facilitate the dialogue and to guide the process to include media literacy skills. After the dialogue session, a North Carolina filmmaker will lead a hands-on animation demonstration. Students will participate in the creation of a short video and will be able to watch the progress on the screen.
The Media Literacy program is made possible in part by grants from the Cape Fear Museum, the Greater Wilmington Arts and Cultural Alliance and the Landfall Foundation.
